Individuals can experience an itchy scalp without having a problem with dandruff. Itchy scalps can be caused by such conditions as Psoriasis, a scalp infection or an allergic reaction to something. Constantly scratching your head in public can become quite embarrassing. You can begin treating your itchy scalp at home, but if you see no improvement after two weeks, you need to see your physician in case something more serious is to blame.
On the top of the list for getting rid of an itchy scalp is neem oil. Neem oil is an all-natural fungicide and insecticide. That means if a fungal infection or a case of head lice is causing your itch, the neem oil will get rid of them. Even if they are not the cause, the neem oil will instantly stop any itching. It just won't cure the problem. Drip some neem oil directly on to your scalp and use your hands to massage it in. Do this twice per day until your itching completely stops.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera has tremendous healing powers. It is used for many skin conditions including sunburn. Aloe has the ability to heal whatever is causing the itch so that it does not reoccur. It is also very soothing and will feel good when applied to the scalp. Aloe comes in a few forms, but you will need a tube of gel for your scalp. Rub the gel directly in to your scalp and then let it sit there for 15 minutes. Rinse out. Do this once per day until you no longer experience any itching.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is not only used to get rid of dandruff. It actually gets rid of the itch. It also works on an itchy scalp that does not have dandruff. Before you jump in the shower, you need to mix together 1/3 of a cup of vinegar and 2/3 of a cup of warm water. Pour this mixture over your scalp and gently massage it in a bit. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then shampoo your hair as you normally would. Do this each time you take a shower to keep the itch away.
